So I says to Mable, I says...

Call it karma for leaving my blog this week until last minute, I am now 'legit' suffering from writers block at the moment. It seemed every day (up until this one currently) I fell in love with a new topic in the area of advertising to focus my blog around. So when my backs against the wall and Kyle' brain wants to implode. What does he do?

So... this week in sports! Now dont fret reviewer of this blog. I intend to make this somewhat relevant to what were learning in class. We're currently in the midst of an amazing NLCS (National League Championship Series) between the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers. And where as before I used to just be able to enjoy a game and observe statistics, I've found myself being more interested in what ads are being played and at what times. Both teams boast Super star caliber players that are pending UFA's (Unrestricted Free Agents) in Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder. I am one of the few people likely in this world other then a sports agent to believe athletes deserve the money they are paid.

They are vehicle's, it is an incredible grind to get through a full season. And even the most modest athlete would agree. There's travel, intense physical duress, and the mental pressure associated with being a pro caliber ahtlete in general. Both Pujols and Fielder will command between 25-30 million dollars a season for a multiple year contract. And I enthusiastically exclaim 'Why the hell not?'. Each respective major sporting league boasts annual revenues in the billions. And now being an advertising sutdent I see the other side of the coin in that theres companies who makes millions themselves on viewership which is based on seeing these amazing ahletes perform. What I'm saying is celebrity endorsement is a powerful thing. And these athletes are selling so many things all at once without us even realizing. I say this wearing my Hane's underwear... Thank you for showing me the light Michael Jordan. I guess this turned out to be a quick rant more than anything. But thus is the life of the 'Nation dealing with the Situation

I'm bringing Fridays back...but where's Timberland?

On the day after the Leafs beat the 'Bleu Blanc et Rouge'  2-0, not even Rebecca Black swinging from the hair of Willow Smith could bring me down. What did bring me down recently though is the unfortunate passing of Steve Jobs. Ultimately, he was cooler than Bill Gates, and any human being who personifies 'cool' (myself included) knows that it takes a long time to grow into it.

For a long time Billy boy was like Apollo Creed. Apollo was challenged but no one could top him - he remained the champ. Steve Jobs was like Rocky. He could always fight, but knew timing was everything. Then the day came when the Italian Stallion got his chance. He trained for months leading up to the bout, and lost his first time through. This could be compared to the 'Macintosh" era of what is now known as Apple. Well guess what! Our home boy Jobs - not unlike the great Balboa himself - learned from his first series of punches, and came back for a second tilt. We know how that turned out...

The circle of life will go on. A massive innovator like Jobs will no longer grace us with his tools of efficiency. But if Rocky 5 taught us anything, it's that eventually the day will come when you are knocked off the top of the mountain. It's up to the new CEO and former COO of Apple Tim Cook to make sure Apple doesn't cry "ADRIANNNNNN!!!!!" anytime soon. I hope you enjoyed this off-keel read ad; until then, this is the 'Nation talkin' 'bout the situation.
